April 9th

I just wrote last weeks post, so it spoke pretty much for this week too. I am just enjoying finishing Woolf's novel. The points of view are a bit awkward or more so unfamiliar to me, but I am getting used to it. I am planning on taking some of Doc's classes this summer so maybe some of you guys will be there too. I am a creative studies major and I was disappointed to know that none of those classes are open in the summer. What's up with that, are we not supposed to be creative in the summer? Ooops, This is for last week!

I guess I was so happy to have finished the web-site that I forgot to post last week, so I hope this make-up counts. I enjoy this class but sometimes I have so much going on that I forget things. Hey, we're students but also humans. I really liked last weeks readings but Viginia Woolf is a bit more interesting than Joyce. Maybe more difficult but I like them both. I am glad the approach of this class is so relaxed and open to opinion, and I appreciate reading everyone elses posts about the texts. You all are great to share with even though we don't have a traditional setting. In fact, I like this better. Keep up the good posts. Talk later.

The End is Near

Wow, can you believe how fast the semester is coming to an end? It feels like only yestarday it was January and snowing. I am glad the spring is finally here. I love poetry in the springtime! I especially love the modernism period. Eliot, although difficult, is such a pleasure to read. I am looking forward to the following readings. I am struggling with my web page, but only because I am about as computer illiterate as it gets. It is due soon so that is how I am spending my spare time. Have a great week.

Spring Fever

Hey everyone!!! I am so glad for the break next week. It will be catch up time for me. So for all the kids at the beach-wish I were there instead of in the books. It really sucks being dedicated. Who am I fooling-it really sucks being behind. I like the poetry this week. I am confused about the nature vs. art argument that's going on, but that has always been a difficult topic for me to understand. My team mates are doing great on the web-site, and I feel like such a loser so far. I am working on mine and it's fun because I really love Sylvia Path. She is such an intriguing and dark writer. Her life was not so easy from what I am learning, but she really uses her problems to make great poetry. Everyone have a safe and fun break! Until next time.........

9th week

Almost Spring-Break! Wanna know what fun and wonderful things I have planned?? Sure ya do, or you wouldn't be reading this. Okay-spend time with the fam, homework, housework, and turn another year older. That's right-got a B-day coming up. The big 2-8! Wow, I can see thirty peeking around the corner, leering at me. But hey, I'd rather get older than be dead. Speaking of death, I am not usually a fan of the media but somehow I took the bait. Hook line and sinker, and I am not talking about John Donne. Unfortunately, I was a temporary Anna Nicole junkie, but now she is buried, so thankfully I can move on. I seriously did not intend to get addicted to anything like that, but it's kind of like those car crashed that you pass. You know that you shouldn't look, but you just can't help it, and it was such a circus. Anyways, I say I was addicted but that means I may have spent an hour a day watching tv. Normally, I don't watch anything but Rome on Sunday nights, or Nip Tuck when it has a new season. Other than that, my life demands too much for me to be on the couch watching tv. I could always be reading or writing something instead. Speaking of, I am glad we read Dickens. I was not looking forward to it for some reason, but I have really enjoyed it. I am also glad to get essay 2 off my mind, so I can focus on that web-site. Uggghhh. Not excited. I am not a technical genius, so this will be the real challenge of taking the class, but like everything else I freak out about it will probably not be that big of a deal. We'll soon see. 8th week

Half way point!!!! I don't know about everyone else but it has actually gone by pretty fast. Maybe because I'm living in a whirlwind of homework, but it seems to be moving along at a quick pace. I really enjoy this class because it allows some flexible hours, so I don't have to rush through. I also like reading other opinions of the text. It opens up a broad range of options and view points. This weeks reading is awesome. To tell the truth I had low expectations of it, pardon the pun. But I didn't think I would enjoy it for some reason. Funny how I always end up loving the literature I think I'll hate. Then there are also times when I end up wondering what all the fuss is about, when it comes to literature I am really looking forward to reading. I am really behind in this class though. I have to start immediately-Friday to be exact-on the web page. I have put it off for as long as I can, but not really out of dread. It's just that my other classes are killing me. I have Dr. Carrell and Dr. Mayfield this semester----Need I say more??? They are tough cookies, but like this class, you really learn a lot about the subject. Anyways, I am not experiencing any more pain the everyone else I guess. I am married with 2 children and I am taking 18 hours this semester. And I am sure I am not alone in that category, so the other people in similar situations can sympathize. I just love it when my idiot husband say stuff like, "why are you so tired? it's not like you have a job." I just want to knock his head off. If he only knew-I have about three jobs. Anyways, I am in a mood. I better go before I rant this page away. Bye and thanks for stopping in.

7th week

Can you believe that it is already mid-term? I can! I am swamped with work right now. It seems like all of my prof's choose to give exams at the same time, and I am getting that drowning feeling. This weeks readings were the most difficult so far. I enjoyed them because I feel like this is a time when women are struggling to gain their voice, but it's difficult to interpret at time. I still haven't started my web-site on Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, but I have started researching. I love her poem "Daddy". I disagree with her saying "every woman loves a fascist" though. I don't want to be ruled! This is a fun class, and even though it is stressful he gives us a lot of space and time to read and figure things out.

6th week

I actually did not post this like I should last week, so this blog is a make-up blog. I was glad to finish Frankenstein up this week. I enjoyed reading it, and learning the mistaken identity of the monster and creator, but I'm glad that it's over. I am ready to move on. This week I picked Slyvia Plath and her husband Ted Hughes to do my web-site over, but I haven't begun creating it. I don't know what I'll do, but she is a poet that I enjoy reading. This week is moving fast, but I feel like this class gives me a little room to move. See ya next week.

5th Week

It's hard to believe we are in our fifth week. This is the class that I feel I have accomplished the most in. Probably because when the snow did not keep me from the other classes, the teachers did not show up. I am taking 6 classes and only one teacher has not missed so far. It has been a weird semester. I hardly ever have teachers cancel, but I guess they are miserable with the weather too. Anyways, I just don't feel real familiar with the semester if that makes sense. I enjoyed the text last week, and getting to see what everyone thought about Frankenstein. I was surprised to see that almost everyone else perceived it the way I did. We all seemed to have the creator and the creation confused. I was a little worried about figuring out a topic for the essay, but decided on one I really liked. I picked the "Lucy" poems by Wordsworth and tried to decided whether she was a consistent character, or a different representation in each poem. I decided upon the latter. I am glad we are devoting another week to Shelley because I didn't finish last week. I need time to process it a little more. It is interesting beyond what t.v. has turned it into. 4th week

Hello to anyone who is bored enough to read my blog. I am a little more anxious about this week than usual. I really don't know what to write about on the essay. I know that we've had a lot of topics, but I've just drawn a blank. It is starting to rake on my nerves. Well, other than that I like the reading this week. I have never actually read Frankenstein, so it's pretty awesome finding that there is depth to it. And Shelley herself led a pretty drama filled life, if you read the introduction. She dealt with a lot of pain. I think "messed up" people are always the best writers..... At least that is what I'm hoping. :) There is quite a difference between what Shelley wrote and what people have made the story to be. I wonder if she would be amused or mad? Probably the latter, but we'll never know. See ya next week.

3rd Week

Hello everyone. I was so nervous about this class the first week, but now it is my top priority to take another web-class next semester. This pace of this class is awesome. It entails quite a bit of reading and analyzing, but I don't feel pressured to rush. Best of all, I don't feel pressured to imitate someone else's opinion to make a good grade. Shelley and Keats are pretty difficult to understand, but it is obvious that we are moving away from religion and moving into a reflection of the self and the capability of the human mind. It is much more about human nature, passions, and desires, and I feel a connection with these guys for that reason. The fact that I, a 21st century American woman, can feel a connection with 19th century British men, conveys to me that they were powerful writers. So far I am very pleased with my decision not to drop the class!

2nd week

This has been the only class I have been able to attend all week. haha Is this snow crazy or what? I grew up 3 hours from here on the AR/OK border, and I'm always amazed at how different the weather is. You don't really think about how much of a difference can occur in 3 hours. Not to say that it never snowed there, but I can't remember it being this extreme. I guess extreme is a good description of any form of weather in this area. Anyways, the literature this week has been tedious, but well worth it. I enjoy thought provoking literature. Wordsworth's "Michael" was great, and it surprised me that I had never read it before. I think this is going to be a great semester.

Miranda's Blog

I am enjoying the literary time period we are studying in this class. Last semester I had Seventeenth-century British poetry with Dr. Mayfield and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I am hopeful that the background from that certain time period will help me better understand the literature we are studying in this class. I am looking forward to this class because this is not a period that I have ever really focused on, so what I learn will be fresh and new.
